Legal Resources

last updated: Dec 2025

Families may find that they need to access legal resources for any number of topics. Legal support is available from a variety of sources in communities throughout Indiana. Families are encouraged to explore existing resources and find providers that best meet their needs. Different topics may require the support of different providers. Families are encouraged to ask questions to make sure a provider meets their needs before engaging in the use of any services.

Indiana Legal Services

Indiana Legal Services (ILS) is a non-profit law firm that provides free civil legal assistance to Hoosiers whose income falls within their guidelines. ILS helps clients who are faced with legal problems that harm their ability to have such basics as food, shelter, income, medical care or personal safety. Their website includes a searchable directory to find legal resources in your community: http://www.indianalegalservices.org/

The Immigrants' and Language Rights Center

The Immigrants' and Language Rights Center serves the immigrant and LEP (Limited English Proficient) populations in Indiana, who may have difficulties accessing legal services because of their language and cultural barriers. They may also have legal issues that are different than other legal service clients. ILRC works to reduce these barriers to services by employing different means to reach these groups and provide them with quality legal services. They can be reached by calling 1-844-243-8570 Monday through Thursday from 10am to 2pm EST, or complete an application online at https://www.indianalegalservices.org/applyonline/.

Indiana Disability Rights

Indiana Disability Rights (IDR) is a congressionally mandated, legally based disability rights agency. IDR has the authority to provide legal representation and other advocacy services, under all federal and state laws to people with disabilities based on a system of priorities. If your family is facing a legal or civil rights issue related to disability, IDR can provide referrals, and in some cases, direct services. You can find more information at https://www.in.gov/idr or by calling IDR at 1-800-622-4845.
