Dental Care: Options to Access Dental Services
Dental CareFamilies without dental insurance may have access to programs to more affordably get the care they need. Before exploring these services, it is good practice to first determine whether you qualify for public or private health plans that include dental benefits. Please feel free to visit the INF2F fact sheets page for further information about additional health coverage options for families.
MedicaidIn accordance with federal law, all medically necessary dental services are provided for children under age 21 if they are enrolled in an Indiana Medicaid program. A list of dentists participating with the program can be found here: http://www.indianamedicaid.com/ihcp/ProviderServices/ProviderSearch.aspx.
To learn more about Medicaid eligibility, please view our related fact sheets: https://www.inf2f.org/fact-sheets.html Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS)This program pays for dental care visits for a qualifying participant. All other insurance must be utilized first, and the rules of primary insurance policies must be followed before CSHCS will consider payment. Please see our Fact Sheet on CSHCS for more information on how to apply for this program.
Private InsuranceFamilies who have private health insurance coverage through an employer-sponsored plan, or a plan purchased independently may have some coverage for dental expenses. All types of insurance plans come with materials that explain benefits, procedures for obtaining authorization of services, and addressing appeals and concerns. Families should read these materials and be aware of changes. An employer, human resources department, and plan administrator are key sources for benefit information and authorization procedures. Families are encouraged to learn about what types of dental insurance might be available to them.
