Timelines and Procedures

• Please submit your application at least 30 days prior to the date of the event.

• The FIF will reimburse for actual expenses and requires you to submit original receipts.

• Upon approval, you will receive a letter & the forms you will need to fill out & return after the event.

• If your application is determined to be outside the use of this fund, you will receive a letter of explanation.

If you are interested in reimbursement for attending a conference, please note that the FIF will support participation in conferences outside of Indiana only IF a comparable event in Indiana is not available (such as low-incidence disabilities) or if the out-of state conference site is located close to the family’s residence (within 50 miles).

LPCC Activities Stipend

Parents who are requested to participate in formal regional (cluster) LPCC activities may receive a daily stipend on the following basis:

  • must be parents of young children with disabilities under the age of 12
  • must have no other paid affiliation or role in First Steps and must not
be participating with the financial support of another program
  • events or activities of 4 hours or less/day (including travel) = $50
  • events or activities of more than 4 hours/day (including travel) = $100
  • if a parent receives a stipend for requested participation during a project year, the stipend amount is not deducted from the $250 per person/$500 per family maximum FIF amounts. It is considered separate.

All necessary forms are available from the First Steps Cluster or LPCC Chairperson.

Print Materials and Electronic Media

• For purchase of materials, families are asked to consult with their child’s service provider/teacher regarding the topic to ensure it is relevant to their child’s particular disability and/or IFSP/IEP goals

•The FIF does not reimburse for the purchase of instructional media, the purchase of developmental toys, materials, equipment, etc. for specific use by a child or family

• Families are asked to first contact our library, the Center for Disability Information & Referral (CeDIR), to determine if the needed materials are available for checkout.

• If materials are not available from CeDIR and the cost of purchase is under $100.00 (and meets the criteria for purchase) the amount requested may be reimbursed. You will receive a letter stating whether your request is approved for reimbursement.

• If materials are not available from CeDIR and the cost of purchase is over $100.00 (and meets the criteria for purchase), CeDIR may purchase these materials and make them available to you on a checkout basis (for up to 3 months, with a 3-time renewal option). After that, materials should be returned to the CeDIR collection.

Please contact CeDIR for more information about material requests, about library collections, and checkout/renewal policies.
